Amanda Woolrich
ARTISTIC STATEMENT
Her work seeks to criticize and analyze experiences and events, mainly on issues such as death, violence, and sexual diversity. Bringing the viewer closer to sensory experiences through the material, linking different techniques and disciplines within the same work. Her art revolves around drawing, printmaking, and animation, using and exploring different techniques in each project. She is interested in hybridizing manual and digital techniques and experimenting with their interaction.
TRAINING AND ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT
She is a graduate of the Faculty of Visual Arts of the UNAM (Mexico 2017) With the group thesis: "Urban Beasts: Theoretical-practical investigation on gestural cartoons." And master's degree intern with the project: “Here and there. Possibilities of engraving in animation”. With she made a stay at the Polytechnic of Valencia and presented said project at the School of Experimental Art in Cologne-Germany (2019).
She was a beneficiary of the FONCA young creators program 2019 (Here and there) and 2021 (Trasiego) both with experimental animated short films.
She has made 1 short animated film as a director: “Trasiego” selected in the festival Annecy 2023 and in Cannes Short Film Corner 2023.
And 7 animated collaborations for documentary and short film, selected at festivals such as: FIC Monterrey, Prime the Animation Chitrakayha, MIA- International Audiovisual Market in Rome, Cut Out Fest, LIFE Independent Producers Indie Film Festival, Merced Queer Film Festival, among others.
Her graphic work has been selected at the Alfredo Zalce National Painting and Engraving Biennial in 2020 with the animated photogravure “Transformación” and in 2022 with the lithography “Trasiego”.
She has exhibited collectively in spaces such as the National Museum of the Bank of Mexico, the Stamp Museum, Alfredo Zalce Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Pinos, Borda Garden, City Museum, Image Center, among others.
In 2019 he held his first solo exhibition: "Miradas al ser" at the San Pablo Cultural Center, Oaxaca Mexico.
